The wines produced in the Dão region enjoy a long‑standing reputation, with their typicity legally recognized by the Charter of Law of September 18, 1908, which defined its production area, and later by the Decree of May 25, 1910, which regulated its production and commercialization. In 1934 the Dão Wine Region (also known as Adega do Dão) was established, the first corporate body to oversee the region’s destiny. In 1942, after the creation of the National Wine Board (JNV) and the proliferation of Grémio da Lavoura, Adega do Dão was replaced by the Federation of Dão Viticulturists (FVD).
