Known in the past as Quinta da Teixeira or Quinta da Teixeira Velha, the Quinta das Tecedeiras derives its current name from the nuns who once lived there and devoted themselves to weaving linen, a craft that was practiced in the area. At the end of the nineteenth century, the vineyards were destroyed by phylloxera, and the estate survived by producing olive oil and fruit. Years later, the time came to re-establish the vineyard, but with a focus on preserving some of the old plots—a heritage that today supplies enology with wines originating from the ancient vines. With loamy soils, hot summers and harsh winters protected from the wind by the surrounding mountain ranges, this is a dream terroir for any winemaker who aspires to produce excellent Duriense wines.
