Description

Known in the past as Quinta da Teixeira or Quinta da Teixeira Velha, the estate now called Quinta das Tecedeiras takes its name from the nuns who once lived there and devoted themselves to weaving linen, a crop that was cultivated in the area in earlier times. By the end of the nineteenth century, the Phylloxera outbreak had devastated the vines, and the estate survived by focusing on olive oil and fruit production. Decades later the vineyards were revived, with a careful effort to preserve some of the original plots – a heritage that now provides the winemaker with wine from the old vines. The terroir features loamy soils, hot summers, and harsh winters, protected from the wind by the surrounding mountain ranges. It is a dream setting for any winemaker aspiring to produce quality Duriense wines. (illustrative image only)
