This Flor do Côa Grande Reserva – delivered in those hefty 20kg crates, no less – clearly aims for a meticulous start with a 24-hour pre-fermentation maceration, presumably to coax the full potential from the Touriga Nacional and Sousão. The stainless steel fermentation, kept cool at 24°C, then sets the stage for a 14-month aging in French oak, allowing the Touriga Nacional to really refine its elegance. The result is a deeply ruby-coloured wine, brimming with volume and balance, and frankly, a very welcome companion to a substantial roast.
