The Quinta da Fonte Souto is the first property the Symington family acquired outside the Douro. Located in the Portalegre sub‑region of Alto Alentejo, near Serra de São Mamede, the estate benefits from altitude and a cool microclimate; however, its slate and granite soils keep yields low, enabling the production of wines that are more concentrated and fresh. With about 207 hectares, of which 43 are vineyards, the property is not solely focused on grape cultivation for wine; it also features a substantial area of chestnut trees, from which the name “souto” (meaning chestnut grove) is derived. The first wines from Quinta da Fonte Souto were released in 2019 and quickly found success. A Douro‑trained winemaking approach adapted to the Alentejo terroir. (illustrative image only)
