The oldest records of the winery date back to 1605. It was founded by Fritz, a countryman who throughout his life passed his love of viticulture on to his descendants. In 1957 Wilhelm Haag, son of Mr. Fritz, took command of the winery and guided it with mastery toward a successful future. Wilhelm was the first man to receive the title of “Winemaker of the Year,” a coveted award granted by the Gault Millau Guide. Today the estate is under the direction of Oliver Hagg, Wilhelm’s son, and covers 17.5 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Riesling. The Mosel region, where the winery and its vineyards are located, boasts an excellent microclimate and slate soil—the main reason for the unique character of its wines. (illustrative image only)
