Description

Gaja Winery was founded by Giovanni Gaja, great‑grandfather of Angelo Gaja, in 1859; it remained in the family's possession and has been operated by four generations of the Gaja family. It is located in the Barbaresco and Barolo districts of Piedmont. In 1994 they bought their first Tuscan vineyard, Pieve di Santa Restituta, where 40 hectares are planted with Sangiovese and two Brunello di Montalcino wines are produced. In 1996 Gaja acquired a second Tuscan property called Ca'Marcanda, located in Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri. Ca'Marcanda focuses on international varieties, with 150 hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. (illustrative image only)
