This Garrafeira Benfica SLB 48 is a rather audacious venture, crafted from meticulously chosen grapes from the iconic Arco de São Jorge. Five years aging in French oak barrels – and notably, *in the heads* of those barrels – has yielded an unexpectedly balanced wine. The constant, almost monastic, conditions of the producer’s cellars seem to be the key to this intriguing interplay between sweetness and acidity. The result is a rich, full-bodied wine, undeniably capable of standing on its own as a digestivo, particularly well-suited to decadent desserts or aged cheeses – think a luxurious pudim de caramelo. A truly intense experience, befitting a club of sporting prestige.
