Dr. Loosen Graacher Riesling is harvested from the younger vines on the dazzling multicoloured slate slopes of the Mosel River, near the village of Graach, in the Grosse Lage region. Its power and complexity surprisingly bring it close to GG quality (Große Gewächse / Grand Cru), though that classification is only used for vines over 30–35 years old. The stony soil and the Mosel's numerous rock formations warm the vineyards by reflecting sunlight and retaining the day's heat. This creates very warm microclimates in the best sites and helps ensure excellent ripening. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 12 months on its lees in traditional German oak barrels, this is a wine to which the dark, multicoloured slate soil lends a firm mineral structure and herbal notes, along with pronounced flavours of citrus and stone fruit. It is extremely approachable and fruity, with an elegant, mineral finish, making it an ideal wine to pair with food. Awards 89/100 Mosel Fine Wines Allergen information Contains sulphites.
