In the nineteenth century, the catastrophic appearance of powdery mildew, mildew and phylloxera forced viticulturists to interplant vines with olive trees in order to survive. But in the twentieth century, the creation of cooperative wineries gave them new energy and revived the culture of vine and wine. It was in this context that AcR was founded in 1956 by a group of 14 viticulturists, confirming Alentejo’s winemaking potential in the 1980s. Today the winery is one of the largest wine producers in the Alentejo region, bringing together about two hundred growers—roughly 95 % of the Redondo sub‑region. (image purely illustrative)
