This Montaria Reserva from Herdade da Candeeira clearly enjoyed a rather indulgent upbringing – seven months aging in French and American oak barrels – resulting in a remarkably smooth texture and a fragrance of wild berries that echoes the dark chocolate the producer favours in his tea, alongside the distinctive aroma of eucalyptus, a signature of the Alentejo terroir. Remarkably balanced on the palate, with a vibrant acidity that ensures a long finish, it’s a wine that practically begs to be paired with a perfectly grilled beef, wouldn’t you agree?
