Herdade da Maroteira lies at the foot of Serra D’Ossa and spans 540 hectares owned by the same Anglo‑Portuguese family for five generations since the mid‑19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo sobro forest to meet the Port wine industry’s needs in northern Portugal, and for roughly 150 years the estate focused on cork and livestock. Only in 2000 did Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager, revolutionise the estate’s strategy by planting vineyards. Since then the property has produced excellent Alentejo wines based on its preferred variety, Syrah. The vineyards cover 15 hectares planted on clay‑limestone soils, giving the wines a genuine Alentejo character.
