The Maroteira Estate is located at the foot of the Serra D’Ossa and covers 540 hectares, all owned by the same Anglo‑Portuguese family for five generations since the mid‑19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo oak plantation to meet the demands of the Port wine industry in northern Portugal, and for about 150 years the estate’s focus was on cork and livestock. Only in 2000 did Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager, revolutionise the estate’s strategy and plant vineyards. Since then, the estate has produced excellent Alentejo wines centred on the preferred grape, Syrah. The vines are planted across 15 hectares of clay‑limestone soils, giving the wines the authentic character of the Alentejo.
