The Maroteira Estate is located at the foot of the Serra D’Ossa and spans 540 hectares, owned by the same Anglo‑Portuguese family for five generations since the mid‑19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejano cork oak grove to meet the needs of the Port wine industry in northern Portugal, and for about 150 years the estate’s focus was on cork and livestock. It was only in 2000 that Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager, revolutionised the estate’s strategy by planting vineyards. Since then, the estate has produced excellent Alentejo wines based on its preferred grape, Syrah. The vineyards are spread over 15 hectares planted on clay‑limestone soils, giving the wines the genuine character of Alentejo.
