Depending on its age, the wines may show signs of time, such as dust residue on the bottles and/or damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar is committed to storing all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always chooses to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We usually select brands/regions that typically perform well in old‑wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism that, like others, is exposed to time, and even inside a bottle its aromas can evolve in different ways. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the quality of the wine, as it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle air out first, which will help release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines. (illustrative image)
