According to its age, the wines may show signs left by time, such as dust traces on the bottles and/or some damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar ensures all wines are stored at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always opts to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We typically select the brands/regions that usually perform well in old wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism, and like others, it is exposed to time; even inside a bottle, its aromas undergo different evolutions. Thus, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, as it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe first, as this will help release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years sealed. Avoid decanting; it may be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image)
