This H.O. 2018 is a testament to the power of patience, terroir, and, frankly, letting time do its thing. Born from the oldest vines of the Douro – a precise 110 years old – it’s a glorious blend of countless indigenous varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Sousão. The winemaking process carefully maps these grapes across sun-facing east, south, and west-facing slopes between 250 and 400 metres. It’s a seriously considered approach. Following careful hand-selection in 18kg boxes, fermentation prioritises the individual character of each grape. A year in 400L oak barrels, followed by another twelve months in the bottle, results in a remarkably smooth texture and a wonderfully layered aroma – perfect alongside a good grilled steak and perhaps a generous wedge of blue cheese.
