This Setúbal Moscatel, boasting a century-plus heritage, is the product of truly meticulous winemaking – harvests never exceeding 2500 litres per hectare, you see. The promise of ageing in “special barrels” certainly seems to be the key to this intensely concentrated and complex wine. Let’s hope those barrels have had a good chat with the Moscatel grapes, as a decades-long maturation appears a remarkably safe bet. Perfect with aged cheeses, or perhaps a decadent Portuguese bacalhau pudding for a truly authentic pairing.
