Born and raised in Ribeira de Santarém, Hugo Mendes studied Biotechnological Engineering, but his passion for wine proved stronger and since the 2006 harvest he has devoted himself entirely to oenology. A lover of sharing the art with consumers, he is a regular presence on social media. Since 2008 he runs a blog dedicated to demystifying oenology for wine lovers. In the 2016 harvest he became a producer in his own name, having launched Portugal’s first wine‑financing crowdfunding campaign. (illustrative image only)
