Description

Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has travelled a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. In the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring properties across the country and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palace of Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of the greatest importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to Fundação Berardo, part of the family of the same name and whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. On 23 June 1910 it was classified as a National Monument. In the surrounding area of Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
