Kanonkop Estate is a red wine made from Pinotage, South Africa's signature grape variety. The grapes, sourced from vineyards between 32 and 66 years old, tend to give the wine an exotic aromatic profile. Following its vinification and 16 months of ageing in French oak barrels, this wine presents a deep ruby colour with vibrant aromas of blueberry, ripe plum and black cherry, combined with sweet spice notes such as cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it is elegant yet dense, rich with stewed berry flavours and hints of festive spices, finishing long and persistent. Its mature tannins give it good potential for bottle ageing. Pinotage is the result of a cross between Pinot Noir and Hermitage, combining the names of the two parent varieties. Kanonkop Wine Estate is located in Stellenbosch, a premium winemaking area in the Coastal region, off the Western Cape of South Africa. Kanonkop is a place of natural beauty where hospitality, family values, tradition, history and character are the indispensable ingredients for creating magnificent wines, which at their essence reflect the granite soils, the Atlantic Ocean breeze and the advanced age of the vines that produce them.
