“Achelo” – from the Braccesca, this Syrah is clearly a deliberate nod to its Etruscan heritage. The deep, purplish hue hints that the producer isn't entirely oblivious to the somewhat… eventful history of the Cortona region. Expect ripe red fruits and spice aromas, with a subtle hint of honey, alongside floral notes – a charming tribute to the gods, perhaps. On the palate, it’s luxuriously smooth with velvety tannins, making it a gentle companion. The finish is remarkably persistent, delivering notes of plum compote and a whisper of vanilla, and perhaps, a nostalgic echo of Achelo itself. The Antinori family’s six-century legacy ensures the wine retains its character, alongside a pleasing dose of contemporary flair. Best paired with a hearty red meat dish and, of course, a good discussion about the story of wine – and Italy, naturally.”
