According to its age, wines may show marks left by time, such as dust on the bottles and/or some label damage—common in vintages that have spent decades in storage. The National Cellar keeps all wines at the proper temperature and humidity, but deliberately preserves the visual appearance that comes with age. We typically select brands or regions that perform well in old‑wine competitions. Still, wine is a living organism exposed to time, and even within a bottle its aromas evolve. Thus the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, as it is an aged bottle. We recommend opening and letting the bottle air out first to release its natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting; it can be too aggressive for old wines. (illustrative image)
