Depending on its age, wines may show marks left by time, such as dust residues on the bottles and/or some damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar is committed to storing all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always chooses to maintain the visual appearance inherent to their age. We generally select brands or regions that usually perform well in old‑wine tastings. However, wine is a living organism that, like others, is exposed to time, and even within a bottle its aromas are subject to various evolutions. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, given that it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open the bottle and let it breathe beforehand, as this will help release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it may be too aggressive for old wines. (illustrative image)
