A century ago, the Mirandês Plateau became a center of wine excellence. Since 1959, the Ribadouro Agricultural Cooperative has stood out on this journey, blending tradition and innovation to capture the region’s distinctive flavor, thanks to improved cultivation and production methods. Depending on its age, the wines may show time‑worn marks such as dust on the bottles and/or label damage—common in vintages stored for decades. The National Cellar stores all wines at the correct temperature and humidity but deliberately preserves the visual character that comes with age. We usually select brands and regions that perform well in old‑wine tastings. Wine, like any living organism, is exposed to time, and even inside a bottle, aromas evolve differently. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality as an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe beforehand; this will help release the wine’s natural aromas after many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image)
