This Luis Pato Old Vines is a genuinely surprising experience, backed up by a well-deserved 17.5 points. Initially, you’re hit with a burst of orange – think mandarin zest, sapoti, broad beans, and a hint of honey – and it’s certainly more intense than you might expect. Thankfully, the acidity is remarkably clean and persistent, preventing the adventure from becoming tiresome. As it evolves on the palate, the tangelo steps forward, showcasing the brilliance of the Bical and Cerceal grapes and the impact of the Bairrada terroir. Absolutely brilliant with grilled fish and seafood rice – a match made in wine heaven.
