This Lupucinus from Quinta de Lubazim is a wonderfully spirited wine, clearly carrying the weight – and the charm – of the Douro’s traditions. Built around Trincadeira, with a touch of Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional, it bursts with a refreshing attack, echoing wild berries of the Douro valley and a whisper of dark chocolate. The careful, hand-harvested winemaking, employing indigenous yeasts, really concentrates those aromatic and polyphenolic qualities, leaving a remarkably long finish. Seriously, this would be fantastic with a good grilled beef – a wine with a history as grand as the Battle of Aljubarrota!
