It was in 1927 that eleven members led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia). The company is now over 80 years old. From the start it exported immediately to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is destined for export, especially wines, sparkling wines and brandies – the flagship of Aliança’s brand in Portugal and in the roughly 60 countries to which it ships. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing the company into the Bacalhôa Group. The corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point the institutional image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has developed a wide range of wines over the years that has earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. With operations in seven Portuguese wine regions, a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centers (cellars), the company distinguishes itself in the market by its size and by producing 70 % of its own wines.
