Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the island that gives it its name was discovered, with records of the first productions and exports appearing 25 years later. On Madeira, vines are grown in small plots of earth known as “poios,” supported by stone walls on the mountain slopes, which are often hard to reach. The island’s unique soil and climate, along with the production process and the grape varieties cultivated, have contributed to Madeira wine’s unparalleled distinction over time. In addition, 30 grape varieties are used for this fortified wine, with the most prized being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
