Very few producers, especially in Madeira wine, experience a revolution as profound as what happened with Barbeito. Turning from a bulk wine supplier to a benchmark of the Madeira region is no small feat. Everything changed in 1991 when Ricardo Freitas joined the family firm and, together with his Japanese partners Kinoshita, set out to make Barbeito one of the most important Madeira producers.
