Very few producers, and especially in the production of Madeira wine, have found a revolution in their history as great as what happened with Barbeito. To be a bulk wine supplier and suddenly become a reference in the Madeira wine region is a huge achievement, given the strong competitors at the time. Everything happened in 1991, when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and decided, together with the Japanese Kinoshita who had joined forces with them, to turn Barbeito into one of the most important Madeira wine producers. In 1991, another significant change occurred at Barbeito: for the first time, the production of wine became the responsibility of a family member. Two years after Ricardo joined the company, he harvested his first crop without external support, thereby setting the stage for a team that all members share the same motto: produce quality wines with a distinctive style.
