Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the discovery of the island that gives it its name, with records of the first productions and exports twenty‑five years later. On Madeira, vines are cultivated in small earth plots called “poios,” supported by earth walls on mountain slopes that are often hard to reach. The island’s unique soil and climate, together with its production process and the grape varieties grown, have contributed to the unrivalled distinction of Madeira wine over time. In addition to these factors, 30 varieties are still used to produce this fortified wine, the most noble being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
