Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the island that gives it its name was discovered, with records of the first productions and exports 25 years later. On Madeira, vines are grown in small earth enclosures called “poios,” supported by earth walls on steep, often inaccessible mountain slopes. The island’s unique soil and climate, the production process, and the grape varieties cultivated have given Madeira wine its unparalleled distinction over time. In addition to these factors, 30 grape varieties are used for this fortified wine, with the most noble being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
