Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the island that gives it its name was discovered, with records of the first productions and exports 25 years later. On Madeira, vineyards are cultivated in small earth enclosures called “poios,” supported by earthen walls on mountain slopes that are often difficult to reach. The island’s unique soil and climate, together with its production process and the grapes grown, have contributed to Madeira wine’s unrivalled distinction over time. In addition to these factors, 30 varieties are highlighted for producing this liqueur, with the most noble being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia.
