Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the discovery of the island from which it takes its name, with records of the first productions and exports dating 25 years after its discovery. On the island, vines are cultivated in small plots of earth known as “poios,” supported by earth walls on the mountain slopes, which are often difficult to access. The unique soil and climate of Madeira, as well as the production process and the grape varieties grown, have contributed to the unparalleled distinction of Madeira wine over time. Beyond these factors, 30 varieties are used to produce this fortified wine, with the most prized being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image presented.
