Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the island that gives it its name was discovered, with records of the first productions and exports 25 years later. On Madeira, vineyards are cultivated in small earth plots called “poios,” supported by earthen walls on the mountain slopes, which are often difficult to reach. The island’s unique soil and climate, together with the production process and the grape varieties grown, have contributed to Madeira wine’s unrivalled distinction over time. In addition to these factors, 30 grape varieties are highlighted for this fortified wine, the most noble being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
