Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the island that gives it its name was discovered, with records of the first productions and exports appearing 25 years later. On Madeira, vineyards are cultivated in small earth plots called “poios,” supported by stone walls on the slopes of the mountains, which are often difficult to reach. The island’s unique soil and climate, together with its production process and the grape varieties grown, have given Madeira wine its unparalleled distinction over time. In addition to these factors, 30 grape varieties are used for this fortified wine, with the most esteemed being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
