This Magnum from Quinta de la Rosa Reserva feels like it’s emerged from a particularly vivid dream – or perhaps a Douro schist outcrop. The deep purple hue hints at a tremendous concentration, immediately followed by an aromatic explosion that, frankly, stretches our descriptive abilities. Expect notes of dark, perfectly ripe black fruit mingled with floral hints and the distinctive character of the Douro’s schist, as Robert Parker rightly noted is crucial for its ageability. Seriously impressive, and ideal alongside a hearty venison stew or grilled beef.
