Jorge is the fifth generation of a long line of wine producers and cellar owners. Thus, in 2009, Sandra and Jorge acquired Quinta da Manoella, a property with a history that dates back to 1838. The vineyards at Quinta da Manoella are over a century old, flanked on both sides by younger vines, allowing them to produce wines that are highly fresh and delicate, with a concentration that quickly earns them a reputation as some of the best wines from the Douro. Founded in 2001 by the winemaking couple Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges, the company Wine & Soul has invested in and purchased old vines and properties in the Rio Pinhão valley. The couple’s goal is to create wines that fully express the character of the old vines and indigenous Douro grapes, seeking a balance between concentration, complexity and elegance.
