Description

Tawny wines are red wines made from the same grapes as Ruby wines, but they age only two to three years in barrel barrels before moving to casks. These casks allow greater contact with wood and air, so tawny wines breathe more, oxidize, and mature quickly. The high oxidation causes them to lose the initial red hue, adopting lighter amber tones and flavors of dried fruit such as walnuts or almonds.
