This wine, with a ruby hue, presents a clean and expressive aroma highlighted by sweet notes of ripe black currants, complemented by an elegant floral scent that hints at Touriga Nacional. On the palate, the aromatic expression continues, offering an approachable, direct, and velvety wine that captivates with its persistence. It pairs well with cheeses and meat dishes, especially roasted ones. The Manz family moved to the quiet town of Cheleiros, in the West of Portugal, in 2004 and quickly fell in love with the people and the place. The region’s viticultural heritage, with its rural landscape and forgotten customs, soon captivated André Manz, who, with the help and advice of locals, decided to experiment with winemaking for personal consumption. After identifying the varieties that would be planted in a forgotten vineyard nestled within an orchard, he discovered that one of the varieties was a grape practically extinct in Portugal, the Jampal. Few producers currently invest in this variety, given its low profitability, but André Manz did not seek to follow anyone else’s footsteps, only his own. Today, his business expansion reaches three wine regions—Douro, Lisbon, and the Setúbal Peninsula—and 25 countries. (illustrative image)
