Marquês de Borba Tradition and authenticity from Alentejo’s oldest vineyards. As the name suggests, Vinhas Velhas is a wine that comes from the oldest vines in the João Portugal Ramos Group. The red grapes are harvested from vines that are more than 35 years old, while the vines that produce the white wine are over 25 years old. One of João Portugal Ramos’s most iconic labels, Marquês de Borba combines Alentejo tradition with exceptional quality, a hallmark that has been present since the brand’s first harvest in 1997. The name stems from the happy coincidence that the vines and the João Portugal Ramos winery are located in the Borba sub‑region, and from the fact that a cousin of the winemaker held the noble title Marquês de Borba, created in 1811. Denomination of Origin: DOC Alentejo. Harvest: 100 % manual picking, performed in small 15‑kg baskets to preserve the integrity and quality of the grapes. Vinification: The grapes are destemmed and carefully selected on the picking table. After crushing, they are pressed in marble vats for 4–5 days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless‑steel tanks, where the process is finished under temperature control. Aging: 12 months in French and American oak barrels, giving the wine complexity, elegance, and a velvety texture.
