Marquês de Borba: Tradition and Authenticity from Alentejo's Oldest Vineyards As the name suggests, Vinhas Velhas is a wine made from the oldest vines of the João Portugal Ramos Group. The red grapes come from vineyards over 35 years old, while the vines behind the white wine are more than 25 years old. One of João Portugal Ramos's most emblematic brands, Marquês de Borba combines the tradition of Alentejo with exceptional quality, a standard maintained since the brand's first vintage in 1997. The name arises from the fortunate coincidence that both the vineyards and the winery of João Portugal Ramos are located in the sub-region of Borba, and from the fact that an uncle of the winemaker held the noble title of Marquês de Borba, created in 1811. Denomination of Origin: DOC Alentejo. Harvest: 100% manual harvesting, carried out in small 15 kg crates to preserve the integrity and quality of the grapes. Vinification: The grapes are destemmed and carefully selected on a sorting table. After crushing, they are foot-trodden in marble lagares for 4 to 5 days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats, where the process is completed under temperature control. Aging: 12 months in French and American oak barrels, giving the wine complexity, elegance, and a velvety texture.
