Recognizing the enormous potential of Cantanhede’s terroir for producing superior‑quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with about 700 active member growers and an average annual production of 6 to 7 million kilograms of grapes, the cooperative is the largest producer in the Demarcated Region of Bairrada, accounting for 30‑40 % of the region’s total output and certifying roughly 80 % of its own production. It is a leading name in the sale of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines. (Illustrative image only)
