Aware of the immense potential of Cantanhede’s terroir for producing superior‑quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with roughly 700 active viticulturists and an average annual production of 6 to 7 million kilos of grapes, the cooperative is the region’s largest producer, accounting for 30‑40 % of Bairrada’s total output and certifying about 80 % of its harvest. It is a standout leader in sales of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines. (Illustrative image only)
