Knowing the immense potential of Cantanhede’s terroir for producing superior‑quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with roughly 700 active viticulturists and an average annual grape harvest of 6 to 7 million kilograms, the cooperative is the leading producer in the Demarcated Region of Bairrada, accounting for 30‑40 % of the region’s total output and certifying about 80 % of its production. It is also a prominent seller of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines. (Illustrative image only)
