After the first documented purchase of a vineyard plot in Brauneberg on 17 April 1643, the company was founded in 1680, boasting a family wine‑making tradition of over 300 years, always guided by the motto: “Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar.” In 1774, the founder’s grandson built a beautiful estate with a garden reflecting the architectural style of the time. Almost a century later, in 1880, Max Ferd. Richter erected a modern cellar that houses one of the largest collections of wooden barrels in the Mosel region. The company is now in its ninth family generation, with a member of the tenth, Constantin M F Richter, actively involved in the business since the summer of 2012. The Pinot Blanc vines were planted in 2002 on a steep hill of slate soils covered with pebbles—remnants of the last great glacial period—mixed with a small percentage of clay. After gentle pressing, the must was partially fermented in 10‑year‑old oak barrels, using only indigenous yeast. The wine, produced in the cuve, then develops a mineral profile rich in aromas of almond, toffee, and honey. (Illustrative image only)
