Following the first documented purchase of a vineyard plot in Brauneberg on April 17, 1643, the company was founded in 1680. Its winemaking tradition spans more than 300 years of family history, always guided by the motto: “Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar.” In 1774, the founder’s grandson built a stunning estate with a garden that reflected the architectural style of the time. Almost a century later, in 1880, Max Ferd. Richter constructed a modern cellar that houses one of the largest collections of wooden barrels in the Mosel region. Today the company is in its ninth generation, with a tenth‑generation member, Constantin MF Richter, actively involved in the business since the summer of 2012. This 40‑year‑old Riesling vineyard is planted southwest of the Mosel River, in a microclimate reminiscent of Saar‑Ruwer style wines. The very ripe grapes are hand‑picked, and the must is fermented under temperature control in traditional old oak barrels, using cultured yeast. The intense aromas from grapes that are 80 % botrytized result in a wine of celestial opulence, rich with notes of honey, dates, and figs. (illustrative image only)
