Meandro do Vale Meão In 1877, D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, already owner of the largest agricultural estate in the Douro, bought 300 hectares of virgin land at the Vila Nova de Foz Côa chamber through a public auction. Her dream was to build a model estate from scratch, channeling the vast experience she had accumulated over her life as a businesswoman from Douris. Her pioneering spirit in the Upper Douro was driven by her conviction that high‑quality Ports could be produced here. The estate’s grapes formed the base of some of the finest Ports shipped from Gaia. Today the property remains in the hands of her descendants, who over the past two decades have focused on selecting Port lots for the release of Tawnies with age indication. To that end, they equipped one of the two cellars built on the estate by their ancestor with charters, barrels, and casks for ageing these Ports exclusively from the estate’s vineyards. It is with justified pride that the fifth and sixth generations revive the family tradition after patiently awaiting the right moment to showcase these wines to the world.
