Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has travelled a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company’s activities began with producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal started expanding, acquiring properties across the country and creating new paradigms for Quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old royal property. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palace of Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great significance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, which is owned by the same-named family and whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. On 23 June 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the area surrounding Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park. (illustrative image)
