The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who maintained control of the business until 1973. The management of Caves Messias remains today under the care of the Messias family descendants. Since its founding, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the main designated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Port Wine.
